Sony and Sucker Punch Productions have laid out the biggest post-launch update Ghost of Yōtei has received yet. On October 1, the game will be reissued as Ghost of Yōtei: Complete Edition on PS5, arriving alongside a free client patch that adds a narrative expansion, a new game mode, and a batch of quality-of-life improvements for everyone who already owns the base game.

The centerpiece is Echoes of Sekigahara, a story expansion split across two timelines. In the present, protagonist Atsu is visited by Nagato, a figure tied to her past, while flashback sequences send players back to Atsu's time during the Battle of Sekigahara — territory the main campaign never explored. The expansion brings a new map, new enemy types, additional weapons, and new dye options for outfit customization, according to Sucker Punch.

Most Wanted brings roguelike structure to Ezo

Alongside the story content, Sucker Punch is introducing Most Wanted, described as the studio's own spin on the roguelike genre. Rather than a linear questline, Most Wanted has players accept bounties to kick off individual runs; defeating targets earns perks that carry through the run and unlocks additional playable characters over time. It's a notable departure for a series built around methodical, story-driven exploration, and it suggests Sucker Punch is looking to give Ghost of Yōtei a stronger replayability hook heading into its second year.

What's included and how to get it

The October 1 update also rolls in new music tracks for Watanabe Mode, upgrades to photo mode, additional New Game+ cosmetic options, and a frequently requested transmog-style feature letting players keep an armor set's appearance while using a different set's stats. A separate "Beauty of Yōtei" visual mode rounds out the patch.

Existing Ghost of Yōtei owners won't need to buy the game again: the Complete Edition content, including Echoes of Sekigahara, is available as a $14.99 upgrade once the October 1 update goes live. New players picking up the Complete Edition package get everything bundled from day one. The rollout lands globally on October 1, with a small number of territories, including parts of Asia and Australia/New Zealand, receiving it a day later on October 2.

With a month to go before launch, Sucker Punch says more details on both Echoes of Sekigahara and Most Wanted will follow in the run-up to release. For now, the message is clear: Ghost of Yōtei's first major expansion is aiming to add both story depth and long-term replay value in a single package.
